JIA MING (GERALDINE) LER

Masters Student

Structure-function relationships of a ribityl uracil T-cell antigen

Supervisor’s name:

Prof. David Fairlie

Overview:
Geraldine Ler is an organic chemist based in the Fairlie Group at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, at The University of Queensland Node.

In 2013, Geraldine completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Chemical Biology. She then undertook an honours project involving carbohydrate chemistry; where she was awarded a University Medal in recognition of her undergraduate studies and honours research.

Geraldine pursued her interest in synthesizing organic molecules and exploring biological systems with further studies in the Fairlie Group. She synthesized deoxygenated derivatives of a MAIT cell antigen which led to a deeper understanding of how ribityl hydroxyls influence the antigen-MR1-MAIT cell axis.
